Working with the Elderly
The Palms Geriatric Institution provides a home to over 200 Guyanese citizens, aged 60 and older. Established in 1874, the Palms ensures care for seniors who find themselves without the necessary means to care for themselves. The Palms is the only institution of its kind in Guyana, housing residents who are in varying states of physical and metal health. The home is divided into eight wards, four for males and four for females. Its objective is to create and maintain an atmosphere of care and hospitality for its residents.

While visiting The Palms, you may enjoy lively conversations with residents about current events, politics, or stories from their own lives. Many of the residents don't receive visitors often, and are glad to have a companion even for an hour or two.
